Being transparent to the right people makes a lot of sense and will help you. Typically this is the case with mentors, trusted advisors, loved ones with whom you can trust to love and not judge you and potentially give you advice that can help you. Being transparent to the bad actors doesn't quite and can hurt you. This is the case for non-constructive feedback or people who can use your own knowledge against you. Being transparent with the right things to the right people make a lot of sense. Keeping stuff from the wrong people will hurt you and keeping stuff from the right people will help you.
There are some cases when it makes sense to be transparent with people because it allows them to make better decisions for their own life.
To some people you should let know everything. And to some you should let know only what's useful, relevant, or maybe nothing at all.

I value transparency typically in general, and I'm realizing there's a level of balance you have to have with privacy for your own security.
I'm generally a transparent and open and honest person. To me it feels wrong to lie most of the time and while you should be awake and weary of scammers. I'm honest about my feelings on things and to people and this gives me the feedback I need to learn and grow. I make mistakes. I let people know how I see, think, and feel about certain things. It keeps the right people in my life and removes the wrong people from my life. Sometimes it pushes the right people away for some time and brings them back.
The truth will set you free.
